Week 12
Welcome to week 12 of me actually counting out the weeks! I'm still unsure if writing recaps of each week is making time move slower or faster. Anyways, all three fish are still alive, and I think they are finally starting to eat their food quicker too. I usually feed them in the morning before I eat breakfast, and they used to not finish their food until after I got back from classes, but now the food is gone after I'm finished with my breakfast. I think my fish might just be a little shy, but that's ok.
This weekend was a little different in the track world! We split squads, meaning not everyone went to the same meets or competed on the same days. I pole vaulted on Friday at Oberlin College, and again on Monday at Indiana Tech. Both track meets were very successful! The weather was less than stellar on Friday at Oberlin, so the pole vaulters ended up jumping inside. For once, everyone had a really great day - I had an "outdoor" personal best, my boyfriend had an all-time personal best and jumped over 14 feet for the first time, and the men took first through third place! After this, we are all definitely feeling like ourselves again, which is great news because everyone has been in this funk lately.
We added the track meet at Indiana Tech to our schedule very last minute. When we decided we were going the weather was supposed to be 70 degrees and sunny, but we learned our lesson once we arrived in Fort Wayne... it was rainy and about 55 degrees, not what we had expected! Still, everyone and their brother showed up to compete. If I remember correctly, there were about twenty girls competing in the pole vault, which is a lot for the event. I wasn't expecting to do as well as I did, but I secured my first collegiate outdoor win and another outdoor personal best, jumping 3.70 meters which is a little above 12 feet. This meet was a lot of fun despite the weather, it's always fun when you compete well, and my mom was able to come to watch which made it even more special. Here lately, I have been feeling extra homesick, so it was great to see my mom even though we weren't able to hang out the whole time.
As for the school side of things, I have started to feel a little bit behind in classes. Having the opportunity to compete at these extra track meets has been really great, but they make me so exhausted, and it is difficult to find more motivation to get ahead in schoolwork. Not to worry though, I've found enough time the few days I have been back in good old Ada to get back on top of things! I have an exam in one class tomorrow, and then I will be headed out again to Bucknell University in Pennsylvania for another track meet. Stay tuned to hear about how that adventure goes!
I can't believe that you competed on Saturday then Monday for meets! That is just crazy! But I am happy to hear that the pole vaulters are getting PR's and getting out of that funk. Also, I can not believe that their were twenty girls competing in pole vault! I am glad that you came out on top! But I do know how you feel about being behind in some classes right now I am trying my best to get caught back up. Something that I would recommend is focusing on the most important things for now and talk to your professors and see if they can give you extra time on some of your assignments so you are not stressing yourself out! Hope this helps and I can't wait to hear about your next adventure!
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, I have been keeping up with your blog posts and am happy to hear that your fish are still alive lol. Also I think it is really cool that you jumped well this past weekend, so proud of you for continuing to get better. Can't wait to see you compete sometime soon and keep up the great work. As for school it is definitely getting to be that time of year that classwork starts to build up! Just keep grinding we are almost there.
